Biography:

It was little surprise when Dave Lewis’s son became a drag racer. The owner of Lewis Racing Team, and The Kid’s father, began racing in 1968 at Orange County Raceway in California. Throughout his career Lewis has been behind the wheel of front engine dragsters, rear engine dragsters, funny cars, altereds, door cars and outlaw pro mods.

As Lewis takes time off from driving, he gets his racing fix in The Kid’s pits. A hands on owner, Lewis gets his hands dirty at every event, pitching in almost four decades of experience.

His involvement with the pit crew is understandable, though, as it is made up of skilled mechanics who also happen to be some of his closest friends.

As father and team co-owner - with his wife Sally  - Dave Lewis has high hopes for his driver’s future.

Name: Mike Boyce
Born: 11/15/1947

Team Responsibilities: Crew Chief

Biography:

Lewis Racing Team crew chief Mike Boyce said he started working with car engines by accident. It began just helping a friend, and now his “accident” is one of the best things that could have happened to Brandon “The Kid.”

Before he began his run with Lewis Racing, Boyce was a part of 13 world championships  and seven world records with alcohol drag boats.  He still tunes the blown alcohol flat of  nine-time world champion Don Ermshar.

He was recruited to direct the pit by team owner Dave Lewis, the friend who got him into cars to begin with. When Lewis was racing an outlaw pro mod, Boyce took car of what was under the hood.

Now Boyce is taking care of more than a car. He’s the crew chief for his close friend’s son.

Name: David Kessler
Born: 8/5/1968

Team Responsibilities: Clutch

Biography:

The road that brought David Kessler into The Kid’s pits had several turns along the way.

Kessler started working on alcohol motors when his father-in-law and Lewis Racing crew chief Mike Boyce convinced him to help with his drag boat endeavors.

From there Boyce brought Kessler along to help work on Lewis’s top alcohol funny car during the off-season, before asking him to join the crew full-time. Now, Kessler focuses on clutch work for The Kid.

Even though this is Kessler’s first gig on a pit crew, he hopes it will continue to grow and has ambitions of working in The Kid’s top fuel pit one day.
